We are delighted to share the winners of the first annual Best in Arizona Pavement Awards Program!
The awards celebration, held on the 20th of November, brought together industry professionals, project teams, and community leaders to honor outstanding asphalt pavement projects completed across Arizona.

The Pima County Department of Transportation, Arizona Department of Transportation, and Maricopa County Department of Transportation have demonstrated their commitment to road infrastructure innovation. These projects, from local county roads to major state highways, demonstrate how strategic planning, advanced techniques, and a commitment to quality pave the way for smoother, safer, and more efficient travel experiences.

The City of Peoria, Navajo Department of Transportation, and Arizona Department of Transportation have demonstrated their commitment to road infrastructure innovation through groundbreaking paving projects. These successful projects were visited by Tim Murphy, showcasing the agencies’ dedication to implementing cutting-edge materials and techniques in road construction and maintenance. Through these innovative projects, these organizations continue to advance sustainable and efficient transportation solutions.

Our team recently had the opportunity to visit two innovative paving projects completed by the City of Mesa alongside Tim Murphy. These projects highlight Mesa’s dedication to utilizing advanced materials and techniques in road construction and maintenance.

Our team recently had the opportunity to visit three projects in the City of Phoenix alongside Tim. These projects showcase the City of Phoenix’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and implementing sustainable paving practices across various neighborhoods.

We are excited to announce that Tim Murphy, a renowned pavement professional, will contribute his expertise to “Best in Arizona” Pavement Awards Program. Tim will be traversing Arizona to review numerous nominated projects across the state this September.

On August 13th to 15th, 2024, Naaga Vedula represented ASU pavement research group, presenting his research on “Unmanned Aerial-Vehicle (UAV) Assisted Real-Time Construction Quality Support System for Pavements” at USDOT FoT Summit.

Southwest Pavement Technology Consortium supports Arizona’s state and local transportation agencies to achieve their sustainability goals through FHWA low-carbon transportation materials grant.
Join us at the information session regarding FHWA’s 2-billion-dollar low-carbon transportation materials grant. Many of the state DOTs already completed their applications. NOFO for local agencies is expected to be announced anytime soon.
The main goal of the session is to introduce the grant opportunities for Arizona’s state and local agencies and available resources. The session will also initiate a conversation about specific ideas on utilizing these resources to help our local communities.

In March 2023, Southwest Pavement Technology hosted David Brill, PhD, P.E. from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Dr. Brill’s completed his lecture with a meet & greet session with the students.
