FAA Program Manager David Brill’s Visit to ASU and SSEBE

In March 2023, Southwest Pavement Technology hosted David Brill, PhD, P.E. from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).Dr. Brill is the Program Manager of FAA Airport Technology R&D Branch at William J.Hughes Technical Centre in Atlantic City. Dr. Brill visited SSEBE’s Advanced Pavement Laboratory and met with PhD students working on various airfield pavement research projects. Dr. Hasan Ozer and his research team presented their latest progress on their project on development of FAA’s new mechanistic design method for asphalt overlays to prevent reflective cracking.

During his visit, David Brill presented the SSEBE’s transportation seminar on FAA’s new M-E design approach for top-down cracking in concrete airfield pavement structures. He was the guest lecturer in ASU’s Airport Planning and Design class in front of a large group of undergraduate and graduate students. His guest lecture featured FAA pavement design software FAARFIELD for concrete pavements and a demonstration example.
