Meet The Instructors

Tim Murphy, President of Murphy Pavement Technology, Inc., promotes best practices within the asphalt industry on local, regional, and national levels. He works collaboratively with academia, agencies, associations, consultants, contractors, and material suppliers, to ensure asphalt quality at the most economical means possible. He co-authored “MS-22 Construction of Hot Mix Asphalt Pavements” for the Asphalt Institute and currently travels the country training asphalt professionals and practitioners for the National Highway Institute on asphalt plant production and workmanship.

    • Asphalt mix design, volumetric, and specifications
    • Marshall and Superpave mix design defined and compared
    • QC and process control (local and national specs)
    • Mixture selection for local and state routes
    • Troubleshooting issues with mix design & production
    • Analyzing acceptance test strips, re-proportioning & full production
  • Day 2 & 3 (Jan 25th & Jan 26th, 2024): Asphalt Maintenance and Preservation Basics
    • Commonly used treatments and scheduling
    • Selection and application of treatments
    • QC for the treatments and process control
    • Presentations by the local industry and demos
