Pavement Technology

The Southwest Pavement Technology Consortium draws on years of expertise and qualified teachers for its courses and training materials. We are dedicated to educating individuals on the best practices for testing, producing, and using asphalt in the paving. The training classes started in January 2022.  More than 60 trainees from various agencies, businesses, and government groups & organizations are present in the training sessions that began in January 2023.

3- Day Geotechnical Testing & Pavement Engineering

Instructor: Charlie Greer

Date: Dec 7-9, 2022, 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM MST

Geotechnical field and laboratory tests and basic pavement materials engineering procedures will be introduced. An overview of the tests procedures and their importance and use in pavement construction will be discussed. The application of the procedures will be explored through the presentation of several case histories. Attendees will be challenged as teams to analyse case histories and present their proposed solutions for comparison to the actual solutions that were implemented.

2-Day Superpave
Mix Design

Instructor: Tim Murphy

Date: Jan 18-19, 2023, 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM MST

This 2- Day mix design course has been designed to provide hands on laboratory time and provide a starting point to Superpave Hot Mix Asphalt Mix Design.

3-Day HMA Quality Training

Date: Jan 20,25 & Feb 1, 2023, 9.00 AM to 4.00 PM MST

This Three day course focuses on

1) The Specifications, design, QC and process control of asphalt Mix.

2) Asphalt Mix production facilities and QC

3) Asphalt construction workmanship
