These successful projects were visited by Tim Murphy, showcasing the agencies’ dedication to implementing cutting-edge materials and techniques in road construction and maintenance. Through these innovative projects, these organizations continue to advance sustainable and efficient transportation solutions.

Project 1: City of Peoria Mill and Overlay- Pavement and Maintenace Repair

• 📌 Location: 79th Ave. & Sweetwater QS
• 🚧 Project Type: Local Agency (City) Resurfacing
• 📝 Notable Features:
  • One of Arizona’s first large-scale implementations of the innovative BMD approach for pavement rehabilitation
  • Aimed to improve the durability and performance of thin overlays on low-volume road pavements, addressing specific issues like stripping, raveling, reflective cracking, and surface discoloration

Project 2: Chinle Municipal Airport – Reconstruct Runway 18/36

• 📌 Location: Chinle Municipal Airport, Chinle, AZ. Runway Sta 10+00 to Sta 79+02
• 🚧 Project Type: Airport
• 📝 Notable Features:
  • Addressed unexpected subgrade conditions by quickly adjusting their approach, including removing saturated clay material and replacing it with pulverized material to stabilize the subgrade
  • Hired 33 seasonal workers from the Navajo community for the duration of the project, supporting the local economy and fostering collaboration between the company and the Navajo Nation

Project 3: ADOT Bowie JCT- Safford Highway (US 191) (SR 266- SR 366)

• 📌 Location: Graham County on US-191, from milepost (MP) 104.50 to MP 113.61, south of Safford

• 📝 Notable Features:
  • The project achieved an International Roughness Index (IRI) value of 28.75 inches per lane mile, demonstrating exceptional pavement smoothness and quality
  • The project had experienced comprehensive planning and coordination, from material production and trucking to daily on-site operations, ensuring efficient workflow and immediate problem-solving
